Explorer of the week: Specter

brokenmix70

yeah, i know. The picture looks like he is saying  “hey man, how long  do you need to take the  pic? ;)     But behind the face you will find a really nice guy that loves music with a really inteligent  way of live, testing  all the flavours that earth can show.   At least that was the vibe that i felt talking to Andres Ordonez aka Specter in the last Beatdown party in Madrid where he was playing records in a really cold night in the city even with snow in the morning…  We were talking about the making of “Windtalker” his first track for the Deep Explorer sampler compilation of 2008 called “Up to the surface”  and about a new remix that he will have in process for Deep Explorer. referencia_013B_ppp300_Web

And of course we were talikng about Tetrode music. The big label that he runs  with his partner Damon Lamar. Untyl today only four releases in nine years but more that enough to make Tetrode one of the most important labels of the undergroud scene.tetrodelogo
Andres told me that with his last releases in Eargasmic, Downbeat and Deep Explorer, he feels his batteries recharged again so we’ll see more often the Tetrode stuff.
Was really nice to meet him in my city, I hope to see you again, bro!

Deep Explorer 018 Reggie Dookes feat. Eric Johnson “The golden years EP” (Psychostasia 2001-2006)

referencia_018A_Webreferencia_018B_Web

A1.Reggie Dokes “Mother Africa”
A2.Eric Johnson “In 2 deep”
B1.Reggie Dokes “Black thoughts (Dubbyman deep in the hole mix)
B2.Reggie Dokes “Mother Africa (Dubbyman tribute mix)

“Back in the day, when I discovered the music from Reggie Dokes and the Psychostasia label i felt something similar as when i listened for the first time the music from Lil Louis at the end of the 80’s. I mean ..are their music really house ? it must be because all the good househeads play and respect his stuff .. perhaps just for that different and unique way of make house.”

Dubbyman
Deep Explorer Music

The Golden years ep represents the special tribute that Deep Explorer make
to Psychostasia records, one of the most influential labels of the underground house of this age.
The Ep opens the fire with Reggie Dokes that plays with the tribal electronics in his completely new song called “Mother Africa” and it? exactly what the title suggest, a tribal journey through the machines into the continent. In the same side the EP continues rescuing a lost track from Eric Johnson planned for a new Psychostasia but because the big pause of the label in 2006 the precious rhodes and tribal percussion of “In 2 deep” never saw the light.

In the B side we afront the personal tribute that Dubbyman makes
to the Psychostasia label creating two remixes but in a different way never seen before; taking samplers from many songs included in the Psychostasia catalogue to create new collage versions from one of the first songs edited in Psychostasia in 2001: the classic “Black thoughts” and “Mother africa” the ultimate song from Reggie Dokes. The first one called “deep in the hole mix” rides the 4×4 rhythm into a neverending deep climax. The “tribute mix”
pithc down the tempo in a kaleidoscope of different sounds like a musical collage.
Of course that the remixes are a wink to the Psychofans but also is a perfect time to discover the Psychostasia sound …through Deep Explorer….

Go ahead, explorers….
