W & P Hgg, Funkstart ( Dubbyman/ Above Smoke Rmxs )
Preview
We are proud to present you the latest instalment for Cornuta Sound, Valencia after the first two releases from this Valencia based imprint became secret weapons in the cases of many beloved DJs like Larry Heard, Charles Webster, Ame etc. . A delighful deephouse tribute to Gill Scott Heron with sparse spoken words from the soul poet laced over an bouncing, organic rhythm and ultra-deep rhodes chords. Proper deep business that should find favour with fans of Moodyman, Charles Webster or stuff on labels like Mojuba. a very limited 500 copies one sided 160 grs. vinyl, specially done for connaisseurs.
After W & P Hugg aka Hugo Giner from Valencia had scored a veritable underground hit with “Sleep Scott Heron” the last release on his higly
collectable Cornuta imprint and after an excellent EP on Spains deephouse flagship Deep Explorer, he know brings more heat on Cornuta accompanied by Deep Explorers Dubbyman and his brother Above Smoke returning the favor on the remix tip.
On the self-explaining “Funkstart” and the percussive pressure-cooker “basic groove” W & P Hugg gloriously displays his great ability to strip down his tracks to the addictive essences of deephouse without unnecessary gadgets or pointless tootling: pure irresistible grooves with classic funk basslines, vocal snippets and simple rhodes keys to warm the heart – straight up heat!
Dubbyman builds a completely new complex midpaced groove around Funkstarts original chords , while Above Smoke drops the 4/4 drum altogether for a swinging broken beat mix with live bassline and nice jazz guitar licks.
Absolutely essential release!

The countdown is on the way to celebrate 15 releases on Deep Explorer and the previous step is this number 014 signed by Dubbyman.
Strange Days Ep reflects in a four tracks work, the meaning of the deep sound in different ways without prejudices about time and forms.
The Opening track is “Sunday Manifesto”, a groovy moody track with an obsessive chords taken from the old soul scene and the speech of mr JUS-ED the head of UNDERGROUND QUALITY one of the most important labels in deep house at this time. Taken from a skit of his monstrous “Unitu Kolabo 4×12″ , Jus-ED let us a funny but true opinion about working in the holidays, specifically, on sundays…
Later comes “Les Vampires Bakalas” a darky midtempo tune below the 110bpms that mix crazy moogs with spiritual percussions and a shocking clap that would remind some of those B sides on Psychostasia records..In the B side we got the dinamic remix from “Sunday manifesto” by the hands of RICK WADE (Harmony park, Funky Chocolate, Trackmode…) He accelerates the tempo, extends the groove and burn the floor, playing with the voice in a funny way. A 100% Rick Wade remix. To close the Ep “Today Brother”. Combined elements from old disco and funky live music to make real and imperishable house music that at times sounds deep and later disco with a bassline that hypnotize the dancers.. Sounds a classic..but it’s new, man! We’ll see you at the 15th….Go ahead explorers…..
