Resident advisor review:
Here’s a bit of a strange one. Apparently Spain’s Dubbyman heard the two-minute-and-change song sketch that was “All These Good Feelings” from Oakland duo The Lady Blacktronika & Mattski and knew he had something. The track is little more than ambient noise of a city street, four organ notes and Blacktronika singing, but you can tell where he’s coming from: Mattski somehow turns it into enough to keep you engaged, and Blacktronika is passionate but reserved at the same time. After that, though, things get scrubbed up when Dubbyman and his brother, Above Smoke, come in with the clean organs and beatdown house on the remix. It’s nice, but it loses something in the sound upgrade.
I’m wholly conscious that I may be underrating Dubbyman’s effort, though, because on the flip is one of my favorite hypnotic burners of the current year: “If Some Rain”’s beat is nothing—a simple, lightly syncopated plod—but the static radio vocals of Blacktronika looping the title and “yeah” and the equally dreamy and unstable sampled atmosphere are exquisite. (The subtle, sizzling percussion that finds its way into the stereo field helps plenty.) It holds you captive for its seven-minute length. So much so that you can almost forget what comes before. “You’re on the DL” is classic slo-mo house, another beatdown cut but one that has the sort of rawness that will fit neatly into a Moodymann set.
Word and sound review:
After her intense “It’s all about survival” in 2007 for the “Oceans Species” sampler (Deep explorer 008), here’s the comeback of The Lady Blacktronika to Deep Explorer as an exclusive EP where Lady B write, produce and even perform the vocals in one of the tracks with her personal style, dirty house under the influence of the Motown Soul. Lady B is part of the Cocaine collective, new talents in the underground scene like the dj and producer Mattski who collaborates in one of the tracks of the Ep . also featuring a special remix from Dubbyman & Above Smoke.
530techno review:
The Lady Blacktronika
Mount Shasta, CA
Transplanted from California’s metropolitan centers, The Lady Blacktronika delivers laid back and soulful vocal house with a gritty, Detroit edge. Her first single was released in 2007 on Spanish deep house and beatdown label, Deep Explorer. The captivating Dubbyman/Above Smoke Remix of “All These Good Feelings” belongs in every house DJ’s crate.

Patrice Scott, the Detroit artist and owner of Sistrum label presents “Nuonce” that is called to be a break dance floor in the coming months.
Patrice follows the characteristic Sistrum sound. Melody, synth and atmosphere.

We can’t miss Ordell, our revelation artist in the previous album Grand Deep Auto (Mnd13).
With his “Hardface” he betters himself and sets a very high stardard. An amazing mix of synths, vocal, instruments and guitar by the hand of Amado. This is black music.
Ernie introduce in this album “Tsunamisadolight“, a fully ultra deep track.
Samples and keyboards which made a compendium of soft circular melodies, depth, tension with a touch of groove.
An essential disc.

LABEL.: SIGNS OF AUTHORITY RECORDS.
RELEASE.: 005
ARTIST.: DUBBYMAN (Deep Explorer Music)
TITLE.: TALES FROM THE DEEP E.P.
DATE .: JANUARY 2009

SIDE A.:
A1 – The Homeless.
A2 – The Homeless. (dub)
SIDE B.:
B1 – Good for me.
B2 – Good for me. (Deep Explorer mix).
Where are living good times where the current american Deep house
,hits the clubs in Berlin and London, reaches to us the last release of
Signs of Authority. A spanish underground label, that support the Deep
house sound in Europe, always looking the other side of the ocean.
It,s the new work of Dubbyman (Deep Explorer Music). An ep in that
runs between the citys of Chicago and Detroit. A journey over 4 tracks,
in a commemoration of the spirit soul mixed with the electronic sounds.
SIDE A.
The Homeless.
Dubbyman plays with the possibilities of vinyl putting in one track two
different versions, connected with a vocal tool. The song is called The
Homeless.
In the first version Dubbyman hit us with a bassline very lively and hipnótic
percussions. The mark staff of Dubbyman being seen in the environmental,
giving pressure, and in the breaks where we can feel the groove of the track.
In the dub version the bassline is reduced, giving more presence to the
environmental showing a sound 100% Detroit. And don,t you forget the
special tool between the both tracks for djs that like to play.
SIDE B.
B1. Good for me, is a track that smacks to labels like Sound Signature and
Alleviated. much more luminous that “the homeless”. This track proposes a
dialogue Chicago-Detroit, where the sampler of saxophone and piano mark a
tone and the environmental the replic. The precious bassline under and the
voice sampler fills shows happiness to the listener, rounding off a amazing
deep house track to enjoy this summer.
B2. Good for me (Deep explorer mix) is the second version where Dubbyman
gives a twist to the bassline , more poignant, and the environmental, which is
felt most protagonist along from around the mix. The dialogue piano-
environmental gives elegance and life to a perfect track to dance in the
framework of a electronic club.

A1-kzr gruuv

Deep Explorer arrives to the release number fifteen and for this special event
they have directly from Atlanta the music from mr Kai Alce. A solid producer
recognized for his works in a lot of big underground labels like Mahogany,
Trackmode, Real soon… and obviously in his own label NDATl Muzik and for his
colaborations with artists like Ron trent, Glenn underground, Brett Dancer or
Chez Damier.
In this Ep of three cuts of real deep house full of sensuality for Deep Explorer
Mr. Alce defined like in his latest releases to other labels the meaning of the
“Kai touch”, a mix of sex, tension and beats..
The Ep contains too a remix of the track called “Ooohhh” from Dubbyman that
up a little bit the tempo to offer a percusive 4×4 long tune for a nice mix..

W & P Hgg, Funkstart ( Dubbyman/ Above Smoke Rmxs )
Preview
We are proud to present you the latest instalment for Cornuta Sound, Valencia after the first two releases from this Valencia based imprint became secret weapons in the cases of many beloved DJs like Larry Heard, Charles Webster, Ame etc. . A delighful deephouse tribute to Gill Scott Heron with sparse spoken words from the soul poet laced over an bouncing, organic rhythm and ultra-deep rhodes chords. Proper deep business that should find favour with fans of Moodyman, Charles Webster or stuff on labels like Mojuba. a very limited 500 copies one sided 160 grs. vinyl, specially done for connaisseurs.
After W & P Hugg aka Hugo Giner from Valencia had scored a veritable underground hit with “Sleep Scott Heron” the last release on his higly
collectable Cornuta imprint and after an excellent EP on Spains deephouse flagship Deep Explorer, he know brings more heat on Cornuta accompanied by Deep Explorers Dubbyman and his brother Above Smoke returning the favor on the remix tip.
On the self-explaining “Funkstart” and the percussive pressure-cooker “basic groove” W & P Hugg gloriously displays his great ability to strip down his tracks to the addictive essences of deephouse without unnecessary gadgets or pointless tootling: pure irresistible grooves with classic funk basslines, vocal snippets and simple rhodes keys to warm the heart – straight up heat!
Dubbyman builds a completely new complex midpaced groove around Funkstarts original chords , while Above Smoke drops the 4/4 drum altogether for a swinging broken beat mix with live bassline and nice jazz guitar licks.
Absolutely essential release!
